Magic Circles were first discoveredy by Johan Huizinga in the 1950’s. Magic Circles can exist anywhere in the ordinary physical or virtual world so long as it’s a temporary space where rules enable specific performances. It’s within these Magic Circles that we can be free to play.
Magic Circles are our playgrounds in both the virtual and physical world.
A Magic Circle is spawned when two Portalers meet in a physical location (IRL) and do the friendly fist bump while saying “Portals for life, magic circle activate!” The spawn location is then sent to The Cloud via their mobile devices and the Magic Circle appears in Google Maps.
Meanwhile, the Magic Circle also appears within Google Street View, and can be found by other Portalers. When a Magic
Circle is accessed it reveals a paralell world governed by a different set of rules than the ordinary world.
